Group Therapy for Children Aged 10-14

Group Therapy for Children Aged 10-14

Maximum attendance: 10

When?
Last Friday of every month, online

The format of childrens’ groups make use of the popular online multiplayer game Among Us.

Among Us is a social deduction game, a bit like Wink Murder. Players each control an avatar on a spaceship innocently completing tasks, except one player is ‘The Imposter’. It’s their task to kill the other players and avoid detection!

At regular intervals, all the players must come together to discuss who they think The Imposter is. It’s during these discussions that we all turn on our microphones for the accusations, defences, and negotiations to take place

It’s always lots of fun, and the key idea is that the children can hear other voices like theirs; other children who also stammer, but without the focus of our discussion being explicitly about stammering.

At the end of the session, once the ice is well and truly broken, participants are welcome to remain on the call and engage in some open discussion about stammering. I try to encourage it, but certainly don’t push it, as it can still be a very sensitive subject for lots of children.

Your child will need 2 screens to take part; one to log in to our group Zoom call, and one to play Among Us on. Parents/carers are welcome to be in the room while the session takes place, and the call can be recorded if requested.
